State Grid Yunxian Power Supply: Mobile Ring Main Unit Enables Uninterrupted Distribution Network Operations

On October 15, the Yunxian Power Supply Company of State Grid Hubei Electric Power Co., Ltd. (referred to as “State Grid Yunxian Power Supply”) used a split modular mobile ring main unit to complete the upgrade of the Maojialing switchgear on 10kV Tan 54 Zixuhu Line, achieving “continuous power supply during equipment outage maintenance” and accumulating practical experience for distribution network equipment iteration and uninterrupted power transfer operations.

The Maojialing switchgear serves 86 distribution transformers, providing power to more than 4,300 households in the surrounding area. The original equipment had been in service for a long time with insufficient intelligence, presenting multiple safety hazards and requiring upgrade. Traditional construction methods would have caused widespread power outages, affecting production and daily life of residents.

This operation adopted a self-developed gas-filled mobile ring main unit. The equipment consists of two parts: a main unit and a cable cabin. During use, it does not require pouring cement foundations, making it convenient for transportation and on-site deployment. Coupled with high-speed quick-connect interfaces and GPS intelligent management, it can simultaneously provide temporary power supply to multiple branches, adapting to complex construction environments.

Through the mobile ring main unit, all users connected to the original ring main unit were temporarily transferred, followed by replacement of the new ring main unit. The entire process achieved uninterrupted power supply, allowing users to experience “zero perception” of the construction work.

Compared with traditional maintenance modes, the device can replace multiple bypass units, supports repeated use, improves asset utilization efficiency, effectively avoids various risks associated with power outages, and delivers outstanding comprehensive benefits. The company plans to summarize operational experience, continuously optimize equipment performance, expand application scenarios for mobile ring main units, and steadily improve distribution network power supply reliability and service quality.
