Guangdong Yangjiang Applies Aluminum-Core Cables in Distribution Network for the First Time

Recently, two aluminum-core cable pilot projects of China Southern Power Grid Yangjiang Power Supply Bureau were put into production successively, marking the first application of aluminum-core cables in the distribution network field in Yangjiang City.

According to introductions, compared with traditional copper-core cables, the new aluminum-core cables are lighter in weight, lower in cost, and more convenient in transportation, laying, and later operation and maintenance, while meeting current-carrying capacity and safe operation requirements.

Since 2026, Yangjiang Power Supply Bureau has promoted the application of aluminum-core cables in areas such as Yangdong and Hailing, solidly carrying out scenario validation.

In the coastal area of Dongping Town, Yangdong District, Yangjiang Power Supply Bureau implemented the 110-kilovolt Hailang Station 10-kilovolt Shiping Line and the 110-kilovolt Xinzhou Station 10-kilovolt Sanshan Line network refinement project, building 1.5 kilometers of new 10-kilovolt lines, all using the new aluminum-core cables, and simultaneously installing supporting equipment such as automated switch boxes to strengthen weak links in the network.

On Hailing Island, the bureau retrofitted the 10-kilovolt Gudong Line, laying approximately 6 kilometers of new aluminum-core cables along the full line, converting original overhead lines to underground laying, improving the disaster resistance and power supply reliability of island lines.
