“Having heavy-duty truck charging stations on highways makes me feel more at ease on long-distance trips.” Recently, at the Yuban Service Area heavy-duty truck charging station on the Shenhai Expressway in Quanzhou, new energy truck driver Mr. Wu told the “Shuang Manyi” Communist Party Service Team of State Grid Fujian Electric Power (Quanzhou Key Customer) who came to inspect the facility. The “charging anxiety” that has troubled new energy truck drivers is gradually being relieved with the commissioning of a large-scale heavy-duty truck charging station.
The Yuban Service Area is located in Tuling Town, Quangang District, Quanzhou City, and has 972 parking spaces. Before this National Day holiday, State Grid Quanzhou Power Supply Company completed the electrification task for the heavy-duty truck charging station at the Yuban Service Area. The station has a total power capacity of 8,800 kVA. The initial Phase A and B zones each feature two sets of 720-kilowatt dual-gun high-power charging piles, capable of simultaneously meeting the charging needs of 16 new energy heavy-duty trucks, connecting the last mile of green energy replenishment for the Shenhai Expressway logistics corridor.
Previously, a full charge for a heavy-duty truck with a battery capacity of about 600 kWh at a standard charging pile required two to three hours. Now, with the continuous commissioning of heavy-duty truck charging stations at expressway service areas, a full charge takes approximately 60 minutes, supporting a driving range of 350 to 380 kilometers. The charging time has been compressed by more than half, and drivers no longer need to exit the expressway to find charging stations.
“A 720-kW heavy-duty truck charging pile is equivalent to the simultaneous charging load of 103 household 7-kW charging piles.” Liang Qinci, a senior business manager of the marketing department of State Grid Quanzhou Power Supply Company, explained that building heavy-duty truck charging stations is not simply adding a few charging piles. Compared with ordinary charging piles, heavy-duty truck charging piles are high-power, high-load equipment that demands more from service area spatial layout and grid carrying capacity.
To ensure the timely commissioning of the Yuban Service Area charging station, Quanzhou Power Supply Company provided “contract-based” power connection services, coordinating with the project construction party Fujian Hensi Expressway New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. to determine connection timelines. The power enterprise coordinated the external supporting project construction plan, while Hensi Expressway implemented the internal project schedule. Internal and external construction sequences were linked to achieve simultaneous project completion, inspection, and electrification.
The company also implemented a “project chief” service model, with dedicated project managers following the entire process from the planning stage, proactively addressing power connection requests, and extending to on-site construction for technical guidance, accelerating construction pace through customized and refined services.
So far, State Grid Quanzhou Power Supply Company has built 72 heavy-duty truck charging stations across the city. The company plans to promote more heavy-duty truck charging projects in batches, providing stable power supply and quality service while continuing to polish the “Maritime Silk Light · Quanzhou Electric e-Home” excellent power supply service brand.
