The main transformer expansion project at the Nanchang 1000 kilovolt substation in Jiangxi Province was successfully completed and commissioned, marking the operation of the province’s first new power grid key project — the first ultra-high voltage (UHV) AC substation project during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
The project, with an investment of 354 million yuan, followed new power grid construction requirements and drove innovation across key materials, construction equipment, and smart device applications. Among the breakthroughs, domestically produced insulating paperboard was applied for the first time in the high-field-strength zone of the main transformer middle yard, enhancing the self-controllability of China’s energy industry chain.
With the commissioning of the Nanchang 1000kV substation, Jiangxi’s capacity to receive external power has increased by 3 million kilowatts. The province’s power interoperation capability with the Central China region has been significantly strengthened, further solidifying the southward extension of the UHV grid framework. Meanwhile, renewable energy absorption capacity has improved, giving Jiangxi more confidence to receive “green power” from distant regions.
